Glorious summits form the backdrop to Kitzbühel’s charming medieval centre, a magical scene matched only by the exhilaration of the slopes.

Kitzbühel’s almost traffic-free centre is laced with snow-sprinkled cobbled streets flanked by cute cafes, exclusive shops and a casino reminiscent of a chocolate box house. When time on the slopes is done, a spirited nightlife begins with après-ski at the foot of the slopes.

Winter events include Christmas markets, New Year's Day Fireworks and the renowned Hahnenkamm downhill race. Other off-the-slopes temptations include winter walks, moonlight snowshoeing and romantic night time ice skating on the frozen lake of Schwarzsee.

The sking

From the centre of town, the Hahnenkamm gondola offers fast access to intermediate-friendly terrain. Steeper reds and a handful of blacks, including the hair-raising Hahnenkamm downhill course, entertain the experts alongside plenty of off-piste opportunities. On the other side of town a gondola takes skiers to the smaller Kitzbüheler Horn sector where there are higher level nursery slopes for beginners to progress to. Nearby Jochberg is only a 10 minute drive away and offers ski-in, ski-out access to the Kitzbühel ski area with a handy beginners area.
